Professor Gearóid Ó hAllmhuráin (pronounced ‘Ga-RODE O-Hal-ver-on’)
Professor Ó hAllmhuráin is an Irish expert from the west of Ireland specializing in Irish and European cultural history, memory, diaspora and traditional music. Ó hAllmhuráin has published with both Oxford University Press (New York) and O’Brien Press (Ireland) and is a prolific writer, international speaker and critically acclaimed performer.
Since 2009, Ó hAllmhuráin has held The Johnson Chair in Québec and Canadian Irish Studies in The School of Irish Studies at Concordia University in Montréal, Québec.
A 5-time All Ireland Champion uilleann piper and concertina player, he has presented over 1,000 concerts on 4 continents during the past 30 years. He is currently producer of The Clare Tracin’ Ensemble and former member of Ireland’s legendary Kilfenora Céilí Band.
